Jiajia Qi was born in Zhejiang, China, is a The Netherlands-based artist. She graduated from Interactive Media Design at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, The Netherlands, in 2018. She did an exchange program in the Interior Architecture design department at Tokyo Zokei University in Tokyo, Japan (2017). She also holds a bachelor degree in Sociology from Zhejiang A&F University, Zhejiang, China (2011). From 2017 to 2018, She was a research assistant of the Dutch Architect Renske Maria van Dam working on Arata lsozaki’s Ma time/space Exhibition in 1979, to collect all the data and remake the exhibition. In 2017, she did an internship in Sandwich Creative Platform for Contemporary Art Studio run by Japanese artist Kohei Nawa in Kyoto, Japan.

Jiajia Qi’s work focuses on recreating particular spaces based on their existing surroundings and then allowing people to find their own ways to experience and interact with these spaces. She is interested in experiences that extend to the edge of cognition of the body engages with architectural surround. Jiajia Qi creates experiential site-specific spaces that incorporate interactive setting, architectural and sculptural elements.

In October of 2018, Jiajia Qi undertook a one-month residency in Changsha, China, offered by the Advanced Art Museum, Changsha, China. From January to March 2019, Jiajia Qi participated in a three-month residency in Vienna, Austria. It operated by the Austrian Federal Chancellery in cooperation with KulturKontakt, Austria. From May to July 2019, She is participating in a three-month residency in SeMA NANJI Residency, it operated by the Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA), Seoul, South Korea. During the residency period, she is prepared and presented workshops, gave lectures, created new works, and participated in exhibitions.

Jiajia Qi received the Holland scholarship, it offers by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science together with Dutch research universities and universities of applied sciences (2017). She also received the European Cultural Foundation, in support of the trip from The Netherlands to Spain (2019).

Jiajia Qi has exhibited at various venues across Europe and Asia, including in The Netherlands (Moria Stichting Gallery, Utrecht; Sexyland Gallery, Amsterdam; The Gery Space Gallery, The Hague; Worm Performance Bar, Rotterdam), in Austria ( Bundeskanzleramt Gallery (BKA), Vienna; Photo Vienna 2019, Vienna), in China (lmago Kinetics Independent Gallery, Hangzhou; Advanced Art Museum, Changsha), in Japan (Tokyo Zokei University Gallery).
