□ Artist Introduction
⊙Rahm Parc
Rahm Parc has been experimenting with painting through various forms including performance, installation, and sculpture. She explores the potential of meaningful images and the continued relevance of painting in today’s image-saturated environment, where the virtual and the real intermingle-focusing on the act of seeing and drawing with the mind. The artist attempts to create formation through mental image-making, and suggests the freedom that transcends the visual.
⊙Miryu Yoon
Miryu Yoon position figures within landscapes and captures them using the camera’s ‘live’ or ‘motion’ function, later translating these moments into paintings. The figure’s appearances and movements in her works function as a medium to express the sense, and calling on us to become sensory agents of expansion-those who extend the work through our senses rather than interpretation.
⊙Yeongbin Yoon
Yeongbin Yoon references and rearticulates the grammar of contemporary processed images and objects through painting. At the same time, she seeks in painting an alternative mode of movement-one that might allow us to bypass the norms and environments that enclose us, particularly the logic of consumption and production under capitalism. Recently, she has been exploring the structure of representation or developing painted surfaces with fine textures and subtle irregularities, in search of painterly language capable of resisting the digital.
⊙Yebin Chang
Yebin Chang captures fleeting moments from fast-circulating videos as ‘screenshots’ and translates them into painting. She particularly focuses on involuntary bodily movements, and drawing our the potential for movement embedded in the body at that precise moment. Reanimated through the artist’s deliberate choice and interventions, the image overturns the context and meaning originally supplied by media, exposing our gaze to the gap between representation and reality.
⊙Hyerim Jun
Hyerim Jun appropriates idealized images-from traditional symbols to contemporary icons-and rearrange them in ways that transform the fundamental conditions of painting. The artist resists the temporality reinforced by today’s image culture-an instant, one-off time in which flat, front-facing images are captures and circulated in a single glance-and seeks subversion through painting. This experimental search dismantles the concept of images and leads to changes in our perspective and attitudes.
