나는 눈의 지각력과 한계에 대해 관심이 많다. 어디까지를 객관적으로 본다고 말할 수 있으며 어디까지가 상상의 범위인가… 어릴 적 언젠가 친구에게 눈앞에 떠 다니는 반투명의 무언가를 보고 저것 좀 보라며 가리켰던, 그것은 필히 외계인이라 생각 했던 적이 있다. <그것은 비문증(Floaters) 이라 하여 눈 속에 떠 다니는 세포가 빛을 굴절시켜 망막에 투명하고 구불, 구불 한 이미지가 맺히는 것>으로써 그 현상의 정도는 사람들의 상태들에 따라 모두 다른 것이다. 그렇다면 ‘보다’ 라는 행위가 절대적으로 객관적이지는 않을 수 있다는 얘긴데, 그렇다면 사람들은 무엇을 보고 사실적이라 느끼며 도대체 ‘무엇’ 이라고 인식하는 것일까… 나 자신을 비롯하고, 또 나 자신에서 벗어나 나를 둘러싼 환경에서도, 내가 있던 곳들, 사물들에서도 보이지 않는 것과 보이는 것을 연결시켜 이미지들을 만들거나 내 안 깊숙이 있는 눈으로 에너지를 가진 모든 것에서 아우라와 에너지 장을 찾아내고 연결 시켜 시각화 하여 또 다른 실재, 나만의 세계를 만들고 싶다. 나는 사실 내 외부적인 것에는 관심이 없다. 모든 것을 내 내부에서 찾고 싶고, 그림 또한 제 내부에서 모든 게 이루어지게 한다면 어떨까 하는 궁금증을 가지고 있다. 세상일에 방관적이고 관조적인 입장을 취하는 것은 어쩌면 무관심이 아니라 한 발짝 떨어짐으로써 전체를 보는 더 적극적인 자세일 수도 있다고 생각한다. 나는 물감을 묽게 희석해서 종이에 붓고 드라이기로 불어내며 밀어서 그림을 그렸다. 그래서 ‘작가와 작품’ 이라는 너무나도 가깝고 그래서 상처 받기 쉬운 관계를 조금이나마 자유롭게 만들어 보고 싶었다. 이런 거리 두기를 통하여 저는 그림에 육체와 정신을 주어 그 그림이 제 생긴 대로 완성되길 바란다. 난지 갤러리는 원형으로 이루어져 있다. 갤러리 바깥으로 보이는 360도의 광경을 한 폭의 파노라마에 담았다. 평소 눈에 관심이 많던 나로써 이번 전시에서 완벽히 관객에게 내 눈(나의 필터)을 제공할 수 있다고 생각했다. 삐뚤삐뚤 왜곡된 광경은 더 이상 객관적 '보다' 가 가능치 않다고 얘기하고 있다. 관객은 작품 '속'으로 들어옴으로써 내가 작가로서 사물과 세상을 어떻게 바라보는지, 나의 필터로 걸러진 이미지들을 통해 지각하고 경험하며 시각을 공유할 수 있게 되길 바란다.

a residency program operated by the Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA) that was launched in 2006 after remodeling unused facilities in Nanji Hangang Park. Conceived as a means of supporting capable artists and researchers in Korea, the Residency organizes exhibitions such as the 'NANJI ART SHOW' and 'Art Critic Workshop', and runs other programs designed to enhance exhibitions and research capability. It also operates the International Artist Exchange Program to utilize international residency network and multiply exchanges, and hosts lectures in which art experts from Korea and other countries are invited to participate. By 2009, SeMA Nanji Residency had firmly established itself as a creative studio by providing creative spaces and working conditions to domestic young artists. Starting in 2010, it began to take the form of a program by subdividing its activities into ‘exhibition’, ‘research and academics’, and ‘exchange’, and supporting and operating them systematically. Since 2012, it has been developing into an international residential organization by operating various programs.
