The Play Lounge at Seo-Seoul Museum of Art is an open space where visitors can engage with art at their own pace, taking time to savor the aesthetic moments within the museum. Currently, the space features Woosung Lee’s But some day, one day, soon (2021), an animated video capturing the continuous ebb and flow of waves through 1,969 individual pictures. Each frame encapsulates a distinct moment, coming together to generate fluid motion across evolving scenes where scattered fragments pass by and merge into rhythmic tides. Bearing traces of what came before them, the shimmering scenes coalesce into delicate ripples. Just as the sea never retains the same form, Lee translates these ever-shifting moments into individual images, breathing time and motion into still frames. Meanwhile, an asynchronously playing soundtrack creates intersections and collisions with the visuals, giving rise to new relationships. Much like these unstoppable waves, life unfolds in shifting forms amid unpredictable changes. But some day, one day, soon lends its name to the Play Lounge, as the quiet promise held within the work reverberates throughout the space. The title hints at a faint possibility that something different from the present might await us, if we simply look at familiar landscapes through a new lens.
