The Photo SeMA launches the Photo Discovery Project to activate underused museum spaces as platforms for expanded exhibition experiences. Its first edition, Storage Story: Another Layer, revisits works by Jihyun Jung, Park Sangmin, Melmel Chung, and Oh Jooyoung―unearthing hidden layers and reconfiguring them through new spatial and conceptual lenses. The exhibition unfolds through three gestures: relocating works, shifting modes of viewing, and rethinking preservation. Jihyun Jung and Park Sangmin’s Cast Capture_VR moves to the museum lobby, aligning the exhibition’s start with the building’s architectural entry and inviting viewers to experience it within spatial context. Oh Jooyoung’s Machine Appreciation System 2 is an installation in which visitors input collection images, and AI interprets and outputs the results. Through dialogue with the machine, appreciation is converted into a machine mediated, textual event. The generated outcome seems to extend from archived museum data into personal memory, yet ultimately the act of appreciation materializes not as data or memory, but as a third illusion circulating as information. Melmel Chung’s A Vault Without Walls: Unframed brings archival materials into the gallery, exploring preservation as a process of sharing and reinterpretation. By reimagining space, structure, and storage, Another Layer proposes that archiving is not an endpoint but a point of departure―a site where technology, memory, and viewing converge to generate new narratives. The museum, in turn, becomes not only a container of the past, but a laboratory for future imagination.
