The Buk-Seoul Museum of Art, in collaboration with the College of Liberal Arts and the Department of Convergence Liberal Arts at Seoul National University of Science and Technology (SeoulTech), is pleased to announce the roundtable "Gamjeon-Sa" as part of the Electric Shock exhibition. This roundtable brings together experts from various fields, including electrical engineering, power plants, and science fiction, to reflect on the themes explored in the Electric Shock exhibition. It seeks to engage in a multi-dimensional discussion on the significance of "electricity" in today's world. Gamjeon-Sa (感電-詞) can be understood as “words responding to electricity” or “words enlightened by electric shock,” and at the same time, it humorously twists the boundary between thought and life through a phonetic similarity to “electric shock death” (感電死). This program views electricity not merely as an energy or technological issue, but as a cultural code that has shaped human life, society, art, and modes of thought.
Through a series of questions such as "What is electricity today?," "Does electricity achieve immortality?," "Is electricity dangerous?," and "What would we do if electricity were cut off?," the roundtable will explore both the physical properties of electricity and its symbolic, political, and aesthetic power. Topics of discussion will include ethics in the era of smart grids and renewable energy, the dependency and anxiety surrounding power grids, and the representation of electricity in science fiction art. We invite you to join the roundtable "Gamjeon-Sa," a space where diverse perspectives intersect, and engage in a journey of exploring the cultural, philosophical, and practical dimensions of electricity.
