Jongkwan Paik has been continuously working on experimental video projects based on archiving and research. By approaching everyday events from an unconventional perspective, he collects images and sounds to explore how they can appropriate social contexts within their given environments. Additionally, he creates works that reflect on the history and fate of audiovisual media/devices using collected footage, questioning aesthetic and political boundaries. He has collaborated with artists from various fields, including dance, theater, and architecture. In particular, after experiencing contemporary dance as a dancer, he has pursued projects that reveal the history and structure of the body and space in performance ― along with their modes of representation ― through the playful use of ‘dispositif’.
He has participated in various residency programs, including the Cite internationale des arts in Paris (2024) and the MMCA Goyang Residency (2021). He has held solo exhibitions such as On the Art of Writing Letters (Incheon Art Platform, 2023) and 《Fly on the Eye》(Space Onsu, Seoul, 2019) and His work has also been featured in group exhibitions including 《Every Island is a Mountain》(Palazzo Malta, Venice, 2024), 《This Is Not Just Local: Tactical Practices》(Busan Museum of Contemporay Art, Busan, 2024), 《The 23rd SONGEUN Art Award》, Songeun Artcenter, Seoul, 2023), 《Young Korean Artists 2023》(National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Gwacheon, 2023). Additionally, He has presented his works across various media and platforms, including film festivals such as 《Dance Camera West Film Festival》(LA, 2022), 《InShadow Screendance》(Lisbon, 2021), 《Prismatic Ground》(New York, 2021), 《Image Forum》(Tokyo, 2018), and 《Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin: New Cinema and Contemporary Art》(Paris/Berlin, 2018).
