Sungkyung Lee poses questions about clearly defined concepts and paints landscapes blurred by shadows. As an artist who uses shadows, shadowed, or shadow-cast landscapes as her motif, she seeks to express various shifts in perception within everyday life. The shadows in her works function as devices that go beyond the dimensions of darkness; they embrace many elements while also equalizing objects, offering possibilities for imagination and recovery. Recently, she has been exploring the boundaries as areas of indeterminacy, where seemingly opposing subjects relate to each other's meanings.
Sungkyung Lee has held solo exhibitions such as Flow Line (CNK Gallery, 2025), Presumed Boundary (Daegu Art Museum, 2023), and The Shadow of the wind (SAHNG-UP GALLEY, 2022). She has also participated in various group exhibitions, including those at the Pohang Museum of Steel Art and the Jeonnam International SUMUK Biennale. In 2024, she received the Samdoo Art Award, and she won the Grand Prize at Gwangju Hwaru in 2021 and the Excellence Award at the Hoban Foundation H-EAA Young Artists Art Competition in 2019.
