Ryu Biho’s digital media-based work visualizes, in a sensuous way, diverse phenomena stemming from dynamics of individuals and society. He takes a critical stance on human alienation caused by Korea’s rapid economic growth and industrialization, but the theme that has endured in his art is existential optimism. His works, filled with vivid visual effects and various expression methods, exude a unique sensibility, fully utilizing the cutting edge technologies of new media―photography, video art, sound installation, and others. Maintaining his criticism on reality, he explores the human psyche and inner self in pursuit of the communication with individuals who suffer severe isolation in today’s society.
