SeMA-Hana Media Art Awards 2014

We infuse rich imagination into our everyday lives, blurring the boundaries between art and daily life.

The SeMA-Hana Media Art Awards are awarded to outstanding artworks submitted to the Seoul Mediacity Biennale by overseas artists invited by the Biennale. A panel of art professional judges from both Korea and abroad evaluates the candidates and awards the winner a prize of KRW 30 million.

Eric Baudelaire

Baudelaire was born in 1973 in the United States and now works in France. With great mastery he experiments with various media such as photography and video based on thorough research. His works are included in the collections of The Whitney Museum of American Art and the Centre Pompidou.

The Anabasis of May and Fusako Shigenobu, Masao Adachi, and 27 Years without Images is a documentary based on ‘landscape theory’ (fukeiron), which features the story of Shigenobu and her daughter May, who engaged in many terrorist operations in the Japanese Red Army for over 30 years and got arrested in 2000s. The documentary also features a radical, political filmmaker, Adachi Masao.

Eric Baudelaire was unanimously selected for his topical, high standard media art which investigates various issues like politics based on the perception of media.
